Relic MP44assault rifle. The MP44 is the iconic and revolutionary Second World War rifle, which was the first assault rifle to be designed and manufacture. Ironically, it's development had to be kept secret from Hitler who didn't accept the concept of an assault rifle, so it was called a 'machine pistol' by the developers. This example was dug up from the battlefield and fitted with a reproduction stock and pistol grips, as well as a dummy bolt, which moves under spring pressure. The magazine can be removed but obviously the magazine release button is rusted solid on this relic rifle, so the magazine pushes in and can be pulled out, but with no magazine release or locking into place. The foregrip is mostly intact (see photos) and can be detached from the rifle, but holds in place when attached. With deactivated MP44s retailing at around £4000 or £9000, depending on the specification, this battlefield-recovered relic which has 'been there' is an affordable piece of important military and firearm history.
